The Storm Hill Beef Cooperative was formed
by 7 ranching and farming families in South Dakota who
share the same set of values, namely to be better than
just 'good enough' for the commodity market but to
raise really exceptional beef and sell to those who
also care about being better than 'good enough'. In
addition to making sure the quality of the beef was
excellent the desire was to raise their cattle
in a sustainable manner with a low carbon footprint
that would look beyond just their generation but also
leave a sustainable operation for their children.
From not
overgrazing pasture lands to a feedlot system
developed by Temple Grandin to insisting that every
part of the operation from birth to processing is done
in a humane manner with a focus on sustainable proper
animal husbandry.
